A Robot On a Mission
editorial design // front-end developmentA Robot On a Mission is a beautiful story that was published on The Brink alongside a flagship paper. Professor Brown's lab is home to an automated robot they built to test how well objects can absorb high levels of impact. In other words, the robot 3D-prints small plastic shapes and then crushes them between two metal plates to measure how well each shape withstands the force. The robot has run over 13,000 experiments in pursuit of the most efficient energy-absorbing object ever created. The resulting data is being used to help design safer helmets for the U.S. Army. My goal was to use video, typography, and interactive elements to guide readers through the experiment in a way that feels as tactile and mechanical as the process itself.
