Rock ‘n Soul talent Angela McKenzie, who works for UNDP, held a benefit performance for NY based City Harvest Inc. on 3 November. Her audience at Continental NYC heard original compositions and renditions of popular numbers, as well as dub poet ANTON, whose “Life is worth living in all its misery” caught the post 9/11 mood. Her decision to help food aid groups in NYC was born of a period when, as a young immigrant from Canada, she found herself dependent upon a kindly restaurant owner for meals. But the philanthropic urge dates further back: in Toronto, she helped raise funds to fight sickle cell anemia and support the Children’s Wish Foundation.
The other performer in the picture is Phil, whose main concern now is coping with a diet meant to reduce his waistline.
