Grace L. Jones
AUDELCO Awards

Grace L. Jones is a proud octogenarian who presides over the board of directors of the AUDELCO (Audience Development Committee) in New York City. Established in 1973 by the late Vivian Robertson, AUDELCO's mission is to stimulate interest in and support of performing arts in the black community. Grace L. Jones sits down with guest host Deardra Shuler to talk about her life in America, where as a little girl she was a member of Adam Clayton Powell Jr's congregation, as a youth she witnessed the presidential election of Theodore Roosevelt and as a young woman she helped to build the AUDELCO organisation and awards presentation. Now in her senior years, Grace vigorously advocates on behalf of the elderly population in her community, to receive proper housing and other vital services.

JR LaFontaine
Radio Personality & Member of the Homosexual Population

JR LaFontaine does not discount the possibility that her homosexuality might be hereditary - after all she bears a strong resemblance to her homosexual mother in features, mannerisms and lifestyle.

In this hour, part-time New York City radio personality JR LaFontaine sits down with Angela McKenzie to share her life journey as part of the homosexual population. From self awareness to coming out to family and friends, to the joys and sorrows she experiences on a day-to-day basis being gay in a predominantly straight world.

This edition of "Initiative Radio" seeks to inspire persons young and old who are still concealing their homosexual identity to embrace the freedom that comes with self-acceptance and living openly, as well as to encourage heterosexual people to fearlessly embrace family members, friends and neighbors who are homosexual.

As an added bonus Angela gives listeners an historical synopsis of openly gay, black American Bayard Rustin. Rustin was the public relations wizard behind Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr's civil rights campaigns but in spite of his tremendous talent and contributions to changing the face of American society, he was physically abused and marginalised mostly because of his homosexuality. To date, Rustin remains an unsung hero of America's civil rights and gay rights movements.

Laura Macho & William Harley
Frank E. Campbell The Funeral Chapel

When Frank E. Campbell founded the Frank E. Campbell Burial and Cremation Company in 1898, he changed the way people thought about funeral service. At the time, most funerals were conducted in private homes, but New York was becoming a city of apartment dwellers and they no longer had room to host such large events.

He created an atmosphere of peace and beauty with soft lighting, quality furniture, tapestries, potted palms and art objects.

In Frank E. Campbell’s words; “To create a service so sublimely beautiful, in an atmosphere of such complete harmony as to alleviate the sorrow of parting, is to render a service to mankind.”

Today Frank E. Campbell is one of the most respected and recognized funeral homes because of its' stellar reputation in dignity care for both the deceased and their families and for being of service to many celebrity clients that include screen icons and heads-of-state.

Joining Angela are Laura Macho and William Harley who are both funeral directors at Frank E. Campbell. Laura also serves as the home's public relations officer and she speaks about the 24 hour Compassion Help Line that is made available to families up to a year after their loved ones have passed. She also discusses some of Frank E. Campbell's corporate citizenship activities. William who is also a teacher of mortuary sciences gives listeners a detailed and comprehensive explanation of embalming and encourages listeners to value their own lives by maintaining a healthy lifestyle and living well with others.
