DR. JILL ELLIOT
Licensed Veterinarian & Animal Lover
N.Y. Holistic Vet

Dr. Jill Elliot has been practicing traditional and homeopathic veterinary medicine since 1995 and in this edition of Initiative Radio she explains how Holistic medicine addresses both an animal's personality and ailment in order to prescribe appropriate treatment, unlike conventional medicine which tends to suppress symptoms. Dr. Elliot is the mother of two senior cats and she explains that becoming an animal doctor was a calling that came during her childhood. She was initially drawn to Holistic medicine when a dog she once owned was inadvertently cured of his fear of thunderstorms while being treated with Homeopathy.

Today Dr. Elliot encourages pet owners to feed their pets the best foods they can afford to be they conventional or organic brands. Then citing ethical grounds and the potential danger to animals, she advocates against the annual vaccination of domestic pets, although the law and her license obligates her to promote this tradition. She goes on to illustrate how some animals have been cured of Cancer using the plant extract Neoplasene in lieu of Chemotherapy and Radiation Therapy; she speaks about the revolutionary treatments known as Veterinary Low Level (cold) Laser and Veterinary Orthopedic Manipulation and she advises pet owners to always maintain pet health insurance - just in case. Near the end of the hour Angela is joined by ALEX LIRA of Marlow and Daughters Butcher Shop, who prepares gourmet dog food for pet owners who want to give their animals foods that are nutritous and very similar to those they would consume in their natural habitat.

This edition of Initiative Radio is an homage to Angela McKenzie's first feline companion Leslie Ray who recently passed away after eleven years of friendship.

GARY FARMER
Cayuga Nation
Native American Actor, Filmmaker, Cultural Activist & Blues Musician

Born into the Cayuga Nation, Gary Farmer is a Native American Cultural Activist, Filmmaker, Actor and Blues Musician fronting the band "Gary Farmer and the Troublemakers." Farmer has devoted much of his career to promoting systems of communication between First Nations people and giving them exposure to a broader audience. He founded the Aboriginal Voices Radio Network and the Aboriginal People's Television System in Canada where the Johnny Carson style talk show, "Buffalo Tracks" scored a hit for the network and launched quite a few careers.

Today, Angela McKenzie meets up with Farmer at the Smithsonian's National Museum of the American Indian where "Bear Tung," the short film in which he stars makes its' New York City debut at the Native American Film and Video Festival. The two chat about topics such as his long-time friendship with "Bear Tung" Director Travis Shilling; about his childhood admiration of Little Stevie Wonder's harmonica jams; about the human rights challenges Native Americans face on and off the reservation; about how "so-called democracy" and corporate America's blatant abuse of Terra Firma is bringing us to the brink of extinction and when asked about his ancestor's relationship with America's Founding Fathers -specifically Thomas Jefferson's reference to the "Indian Savages" in the 27th grievance of the Declaration of Independence, Farmer takes us to school with a few choice words for Jefferson.
